Nicole is a documentary filmmaker, photographer, and ocean advocate with the central aim to tell stories that inspire people to value our relationship to the natural world. Approaching projects from the lens of a shared human experience she believes in the power of storytelling and its ability to increase empathy and create impact. After graduating from UCLA with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology, she went on to produce projects in over fifty countries for several of the world’s leading media outlets including Netflix’s Emmy-nominated series Ugly Delicious and dozens of international expeditions for National Geographic & Discovery Channel.
Nicole’s directorial debut, a short documentary film titled, Lessons From Jeju, produced and distributed in partnership with Patagonia Films won the Woods Hole Film Festival Jury Award for Best Documentary Short (2020) and the Jury Award for Best Cinematography (2020). Since then, she’s won a Jackson Wild Media Award for her short film, Daughter of the Sea (World Premiere at Mountainfilm) which went on to help pass five marine protected areas in Korea and helped support legislation in the sustainable fashion space with her film Monster in Our Closet (Doc NYC). In 2024, she received the Albert Maysles Award for Best New Documentary Director at the Tribeca Film Festival for her first feature feature length film, Searching for Amani which was distributed on PBS World & Al Jazeera.
